£12.8m on the line at Rangers as pressure grows already - Finance Expert
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...
Dan Plumley has insisted there could be up to £12.8m on the line for Rangers ahead of their Champions League qualifier against PSV Eindhoven.
The finance expert shared the money that could be up for grabs by qualifying for the group stages again, in a re-run of last year’s final qualifier across the next two weeks.
It was suggested that the pressure is already on Rangers and Michael Beale to get to the group stages and bring the much-welcomed cash boost to Ibrox.
“It’s tricky,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“These are figures based on last season as we have not seen the full distribution, but it was €5m for the losing qualifiers team, but of course, if you get into the group stages, you’re looking at €20million.

“If you’re looking at payment for being knocked out of the group stage or the qualifiers, that’s where you can get to your €15million difference.
“It is still a lot of money, but if you can get through and push it to €20million, then that’s what you’re striving for.
“Of course, the pressure is on, not just on a sporting performance way, but in terms of finances too to get into the group stage.”
In other Rangers news, Plumley has insisted that the club can argue they have missed out after a £900m+ deal was signed off elsewhere
