Rangers hit by additional transfer cost for Jose Cifuentes - Finance Guru
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...
Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers have been hit by an additional cost to seal their transfer of LAFC midfielder Jose Cifuentes.
The Ecuador international is expected to complete his move to Ibrox this week but needed his Visa approved before anything could be confirmed and announced.
The finance expert admitted that will have likely been included in the negotiations, with the Light Blues set to be hit by that added cost ahead of the move.
“It’s probably in the negotiations,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“You would imagine that the club are footing up a fair amount of that as they want the player and if you want him, you’re going to pay the costs associated.

“It’s always minimal in the grand scheme of things, there is an added cost, but if you look at that as a percentage of the overall structure of the deal, it will still be a small proportion.
“You’re then talking about the added risk as you have with any transfer that it doesn’t work out the way you want it to, so the performance of the player is not what you’d expect or hoped for.
“That is when people will go back and ask if these additional costs were worth it, but that is the risk of every transfer. It’s not unusual and if you really want that player, you will make it work.”
In other Rangers news, Plumley has insisted that the club can argue they have missed out after a £900m+ deal was signed off elsewhere
