Rangers transfer news as Finance Expert predicts new sales at Ibrox

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...

Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers will need to sell players this summer to offset their spend after starting the window with a spree.

Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers have both arrived for multi-million fees with any more business likely to take the club beyond the £10million mark, with “huge” spends expected to be backed up with exits.

Plumley admitted that there is not endless cash in Scotland, and the Bears will need to sell despite not being in panic stations regarding any spending.

“There is much more of a balance in Scotland,” he exclusively told Ibrox News. “You have to balance the money you spend with sales and we’ve seen that with Rangers and Celtic.

Despite their dominance in the league, it’s not a place where there is endless amount of cash and revenue on the table because of the structure of the league and the TV deal.

That is through no fault of the clubs, but it is unlikely that you would see them spend millions without recouping some of that back. That’s not to say it’s panic stations and desperation, because they have the buffer of good European runs with Champions League money, so that will be accounted for and there is a position where you can spend that.

You’ve got to keep doing that year-on-year though in Scotland because the Champions League is where the money is. That’s the balance so it’s unlikely you will see huge figures spent, even at Rangers, without some sales offsetting that the other way.”

John Bennett is certainly backing Michael Bennett with his transfer spend so far, and it looks as though that will continue too as we get closer to the new season.

Danilo, Jonathan Panzo and Jose Cifuentes are three names heavily linked with the move to Govan, so player sales is certainly something to watch in the coming weeks.

In other Rangers news, Plumley has insisted that the club can argue they have missed out after a £900m+ deal was signed off elsewhere
