Rangers door open as new £50m windfall on cards – Finance Expert
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...
Dan Plumley has insisted that the prospect of Rangers playing in a revamped Club World Cup could open many doors at Ibrox.
It comes after The Sun reported there were fears the Bears could miss out on the £50million tournament if their 12th-spot coefficient ranking drops any further.
The finance expert admitted that the “ultimate” goal is Champions League qualification, something that could bring even more prize money along with the Club World Cup added onto the calendar.

“There is a lot going on in the mix there,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“You’ve got the ultimate thing for Rangers of being in the Champions League, that’s the competition they want to be in, they know the Scottish league doesn’t generate the revenue in terms of broadcasting that other leagues do, and also it’s nothing in comparison to the Champions League.
“First and foremost, you want to be in there but if that opens the door to get into a revamped Club World Cup, which we know FIFA are putting a lot of impetus behind, we don’t kind of look at that competition as a huge thing, but it could be in the future.
“For Rangers, that could give extra benefits, and they may like the idea of playing in that competition as the Scottish league is not comparable in revenue terms to other leagues in Europe.
“That does open the door up for Rangers if it plays out that way, and if you can keep that coefficient up there, the prize money on offer, even for qualifying will be a decent revenue boost.”

These are the sorts of competitions that John Bennett and James Bisgrove will be targeting to take Rangers onto the next level, not only in Europe but on a global scale.
Of course, nothing is guaranteed yet and hopefully Rangers can start by qualifying for the Champions League next season and righting the wrongs of their last efforts in that competition.
In other Rangers news, Plumley has insisted that the club can argue they have missed out after a £900m+ deal was signed off elsewhere
