Finance Expert reacts to Ibrox expansion plans after Rangers news

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...

Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers could earn £500,000 each season with the Ibrox expansion plans that have now been confirmed.

James Bisgrove has confirmed that the Bears will move Ibrox to above 50,000 with the goal to make it one of the most accessible stadiums in Europe.

The finance expert admitted that with 700 extra general admission tickets per matchday available, the windfall could start to add up very quickly.

“You are looking at developments and what those share issues are for,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“We have seen Rangers do it in the past, it could be that this is linked to that. More broadly, looking at the plans for that, it seems to be that they’re trying to add more disabled seats and making it one of the most accessible stadiums in Europe which is good news for the club.

There are another 700 general access seats going in with that, so even the average ticket price of around £30-35, could generate you £500,000 over the course of a season.

That’s where you see the share issues and if it is for developments that will help the club in the long term, then there can be some payback further down the line. It looks a really positive development in terms of what they’re trying to do and it will help the revenue position a little bit each season.”

John Bennett, alongside Bisgrove, has wasted no time in making changes since taking over from Douglas Park at the very top of Rangers.

This is brilliant news, and it shows the progress already being made off the pitch, as well as on it with transfers taking centre stage too.

In other Rangers news, Plumley has insisted that the club can argue they have missed out after a £900m+ deal was signed off elsewhere
