Rangers transfer news as Luis Palma and Cyriel Dessers updates emerge at Ibrox

Rangers are set to make another approach for Cremonese forward Cyriel Dessers and are still interested in the services of Aries forward Luis Palma, according to The 4th Official.

The Daily Record [5 June] reported that Gers had tabled a significant seven-figure bid for Dessers but saw it turned down, with the Cremonese billionaire owner Giovanni Arvedi desiring to keep him despite Serie A relegation.

The Gers have also long been linked with Palma with Athlos News [27 May] revealing that Rangers made a bid of £2.6m for the 23-year-old which was turned down by the Greek club.

And according to The 4th Official, who has spoken to sources close to the board, speaking on their Patreon page [6 June], the Gers are set to return to the table for both attacking targets.

“Rangers had previously approached Cremonese but the Italian club are quite firm in their valuation at this time. It will be interesting to see if Rangers put in another bid but conventional wisdom would suggest that there should be another approach for the forward in the coming days.

“I know certain outlets claimed that Rangers are no longer interested in Luis Palma, but that’s not true.

“According to the same source close to the Ibrox board, the valuation for Palma is high as Aris are sticking to their guns, but Rangers interest is still very much there”, they reveal.

Attacking reinforcements needed

Rangers manager Michael Beale is desperate to improve several areas of his squad this summer as the club looks to close the gap on fierce rivals Celtic.

The Gers were forced to watch on as the Bhoys lifted another treble, winning the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup and League Cup.

And one of those key areas that desperately need to be strengthened right now is in the attacking department after the departures of Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent on a free transfer.

It’s easy to see why Beale is interested in Dessers given his towering presence, work rate, aerial dominance and presence in the penalty area, but there remain doubts about his ability to score goals regularly having failed to do so in his last three campaigns at Cremonese, Genk and Feyenoord.

The Gers won’t be short of options to consider but Palma certainly seems a more astute and exciting acquisition given his potential suitability to Beale’s system and his attacking variation, versatility and the tactical flexibility he’ll bring to Ibrox.

Rangers are kicking off things nicely in their squad rebuild, having made two signings already and are close to a third in Jack Butland. There are certainly more irons in the fire, with attacking targets on the cusp of joining the Ibrox revolution.

In other Rangers news, Beale is planning to make multiple signings at a key position and still keep hold of one exit-bound first-team player as well.
