Jack Butland completes Rangers medical ahead of free transfer signing – Fabrizio Romano

Jack Butland has completed his Rangers medical ahead of signing for the club on a free transfer from Crystal Palace, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The former England international has spent the second half of the season on loan at Manchester United but didn’t make a single appearance, sitting on the bench in the FA Cup final this past weekend.

But now that the season has officially come to an end, Butland is edging closer to completing his move to Ibrox with Romano reporting (5 June) a medical has been complete and a contract is agreed.

“Jack Butland has completed medical tests as new Rangers player today – done deal, contract agreed,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

“Butland joins as free agent from Crystal Palace after Man United loan.”

Perfect

The club have moved quickly to get this one over the line with a deal said to have been agreed for a while now after Butland agreed to drop his wage demands in return for more regular first-team football.

After barely playing over the last three years this is exactly what Butland would want to see in order to get his career back on track, and with Allan McGregor retiring from the game we needed someone experienced.

Rangers

Butland has proved that he is a player capable of playing at the top level having earned several England caps, but he just lost his way recently and needs to kickstart himself once again.

Michael Beale identified him quickly and it’s a deal that has been wrapped up nicely by the club, meaning there are three already confirmed and in the door before the window is even open.

It’s a solid start to the summer window, which is going to be very busy, and Butland is now expected to be the new number one for Rangers.

In other Rangers news, transfer deal could collapse as clubs lose contact after boardroom changes.
