Rangers: Malik Tillman development in Germany ahead of new transfer twist

Malik Tillman has been pictured training back at parent club Bayern Munich as Rangers play the waiting game over a potential full transfer.

The Daily Record’s print edition (1 June, page 55) showed the 21-year-old working out with the Bundesliga champions.

Tillman scored 10 goals in 28 Scottish Premiership appearances for the Gers before his season was ended prematurely by hamstring issue sustained in the Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic.

There is reportedly an option to make Tillman’s move permanent for £5million if all parties sanction the deal and it remains unclear if Thomas Tuchel sees the United States international as part of his long-term plans.

Any decision may have been complicated by Bayern’s decision to sack sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, who was said to be a big proponent of Tillman’s.

Big decision for Malik

Changes are afoot at Ibrox this summer.

Indeed, the overhaul has already begun with the releases of Alfredo Morelos, Allan McGregor, Filip Helander, Scott Arfield and Ryan Kent.

Kieran Dowell and Dujon Sterling have agreed moves to Ibrox and goalkeeper Jack Butland is expected to make the switch too.

How Michael Beale would love Tillman to join full-time and help the evolution of his squad, though.

Voted PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year, Tillman is exactly the right age and profile for a Gers side desperate to bridge the gap to Celtic next season.

But ultimately, Tillman has to decide whether a full transfer is what is best for his career at this juncture.

His impressive performances in the Scottish Premiership are unlikely to have gone unnoticed elsewhere and even if he does feature in Thomas Tuchel’s plans at the Allianz Arena, he is bound to have other suitors.

A big decision is in store for Tillman.

In other Rangers news, Jack Butland gave a one-word answer when asked if he’s moving to Ibrox.
