Jack Butland said that he’s “maybe” joining Rangers in the summer transfer window ahead of Manchester United’s win over Chelsea on Thursday night.

Butland, 30, is currently on loan at Old Trafford and he was on the bench on 25 May as the Red Devils won 4-1 against Chelsea to qualify for the 2023/24 Champions League.

Ahead of the game, the on-loan Crystal Palace goalkeeper signed autographs outside Old Trafford and was asked if he’s going to sign for Rangers this summer.

In a video clip shared by Rangers On Tour on Facebook, the nine-times England international very clearly says “maybe” when asked if he’s headed to Ibrox on a free transfer.

The Scottish Sun reported on 11 May that a deal is all but done for the former Stoke and Birmingham goalkeeper to sign for Michael Beale’s side.

Butland’s career has admittedly taken a bit of a nosedive in the last few seasons but he remains a goalkeeper who’s played at an elite level in England and on the international stage.

At 30, there are a good number of years left in him and if Joe Hart is anything to go by at Celtic, goalkeeper’s struggling south of the border doesn’t mean they’re necessarily going to do the same here in Scotland.

Butland is a more than capable replacement for Allan McGregor, who said an emotional goodbye to Rangers at Ibrox on Wednesday night after the 2-2 draw with Hearts.

Butland hasn’t played a competitive senior game all season during his loan spell at Man United but David De Gea’s been in good form and sometimes that’s just how it goes for goalkeepers.

We’re excited by this signing.

The Gers should’ve replaced McGregor a year ago really but hopefully Butland is worth the wait.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are readying a £6million bid to sign one international striker amid the likely summer exit of Antonio Colak.
