Michael Beale admits Glen Kamara will likely leave Rangers this summer

Michael Beale has admitted that Glen Kamara can leave Rangers this summer if he wants to get regular football elsewhere, with the club looking to strengthen.

Kamara found himself back in the team after Beale’s arrival as manager following the World Cup, but then suffered an ankle injury that saw him miss the back end of the campaign.

He then couldn’t get back in the team because of the form of the other players in his position, and in an interview with Daily Record (1 June) the manager has now admitted that he will be allowed to leave if he decides that is what he wants to do.

“I think Glen is at a stage of his career at 27 where he is either going to be here now for the rest of his career and dig in and have a really strong pre-season,” he said.

“He is either going to be here for a considerable future or we will probably sell him this summer. When I came in he had an ankle problem he couldn’t get over.

“We kicked the operation into touch because we had a lot of injuries and Glen played through that for a period, then we gave him a chance to settle. He has not got back in the team because the boys that are playing have played very well.

“For Glen, everything is open really. But I think he needs to look at the competition that’s here in pre-season and decide whether there is going to be enough football for him.”

Crazy

It’s pretty mental that Rangers are in a position where they’ll be lucky to earn £5m combined from losing all of Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Kamara in a single summer.

A couple of years ago it would have been argued as bad business if we had picked up anything less than £20m combined, yet now two have left for absolutely nothing and Kamara is well out of favour.

Nicolas Raskin has come into the centre of midfield and Ryan Jack has signed a new deal, so with John Lundstram available too Kamara is fourth-choice at best.

He’s likely to be away from the club during the summer and there will be a decision to be made, but the club will certainly not stand in his way.

We’ll have to find an interested party to take him, but it seems to be best for everyone that he moves on and we use the money to find a replacement Beale actually wants.

In other Rangers news, decision timeline shared for another new signing.
