Update shared on Rangers move for Manchester United goalkeeper Jack Butland ahead of FA Cup final clash

Jack Butland won’t make a decision on a move to Rangers until after the FA Cup final between Manchester United and Manchester City.

Michael Beale held talks with the former England international on Tuesday night (Daily Mail, 30 May) about a move to Ibrox as he looks for more regular first-team football.

But according to a report by Football Scotland (31 May) there are still issues to iron out between the two parties despite a pay-cut being agreed, and they won’t be sorted until after the FA Cup final with Butland expected to be on the bench for the game.

“Jack Butland’s transfer future will become clearer after this weekend’s FA Cup final between Manchester United and Manchester City,” they wrote.

“But Football Scotland understands the move is not quite as close to being done as has been suggested and that there are still issues to iron out.”

If Butland really wants to play football regularly, then there is no doubt that this transfer will happen at some point in the coming weeks.

Currently his contract situation is a bit up in the air with his contract expiring at Crystal Palace while he’s on loan at Manchester United, with both of those clubs and Rangers linked with a potential move to re-sign him for the next season.

But Rangers are the only club that can really offer him a genuine pathway to regular first-team football, and he will have seen the way Joe Hart has reignited his career at Celtic and will want similar.

It makes sense that he wants to be fully focused on the final game of the season because it only takes one injury to David De Gea for him to be forced to play, and he will want to be prepared if it were to happen.

There is plenty of time for him to get it sorted with the Gers and come in to fill the gloves of the legendary Allan McGregor, and fans should be excited that this will take shape sooner rather than later.

In other Rangers news, a Champions League club are set to make an offer for this Gers player in the “coming days”.
