Rangers agreement reached as Kieran Wright contract confirmed today

Rangers have confirmed a contract extension today with Kieran Wright signing a new deal to keep him at the club for another two seasons, as confirmed on the club’s official website.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper has previously gained experience from loan spells at Gala Fairydean Rovers, Albion Rovers, Dumbarton, Alloa Athletic, Raith Rovers, and Partick Thistle.

He will now provide competition within Michael Beale’s first-team squad moving forward, as another piece of business is conducted at Ibrox.

A short statement from the club confirmed the news on Monday morning.

“Rangers are delighted to announce that Academy graduate Kieran Wright has signed a two-year contract extension with the club,” it said.

“The goalkeeper, who has trained regularly with the first-team under Michael Beale, has progressed through the youth ranks at the club and will now extend his stay at Ibrox until summer 2025.”

This update won’t create any headlines in the grand scheme of things, but it puts together another piece of the jigsaw as Beale conducts his squad rebuild ahead of the new campaign.

Wright will fulfil a role in training as well as being the third-choice goalkeeper for Rangers but at 23 with no significant reputation, it would appear unlikely that he is a realistic prospect to be a contender for the number one position at the club.

A further loan spell cannot be ruled out but it makes more sense for Rangers to retain the Glasgow-born player as a backup option, as described above.

The bigger picture around transfer business will emerge in the coming weeks as Beale is tasked with the wheeling and dealing to make his side serious contenders for the Scottish Premiership title once again.

The season may have ended but the priority at the club is clear, with a significant player turnover ahead.
