Ridvan Yilmaz finished at Rangers as Michael Beale eyes Euro replacement

Rangers have been linked with a move for Lausanne defender Archie Brown – and that could well be bad news for Ridvan Yilmaz.

The Scottish Daily Mail (back page and page 79, 26 May) report that Brown is on Michael Beale’s radar and that the 21-year-old could well be available for £2million. This could well be bad news for the Turkish full-back.

According to Fotomac on Saturday 27 May, Galatasaray are interested in Yilmaz. However, the Gers will only sanction an exit for £3.4m. If the board allowed Yilmaz to depart, it could fund a move for Brown.

It’s been a turbulent time for Yilmaz. He’s been hampered by injuries and has struggled to nail down a starting XI position under Beale.

The left-back was signed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst when Ross Wilson was in charge at Ibrox. There’s a chance he wouldn’t have been looked at in the club’s current guise.

It’s a shame. Yilmaz has shown glimpses and at 21, there’s still hope for him moving forward. Who knows, a big pre-season and a good start to the 2022/23 season could see the left-back thrive.

Beale will be delighted with how his summer business is going thus far. He’s already brought Kieran Dowell to Ibrox and has a number of potential deals in the pipeline. Dujon Sterling looks set to move to the Gers, as do Jack Butland and Jose Cifuentes.

It’s refreshing to see the board get to work early and if Yilmaz isn’t the answer, another left-back could well be on the agenda for Beale.

In other Rangers news, the club wants to sign this international striker who will cost millions, with two other signings close, according to this report.
