Jeff Stelling sends Rangers jibe with Celtic message live on Sky Sports today

Jeff Stelling has sent a Rangers jibe live on Sky Sports today when giving updates on the Women’s Scottish Cup final defeat against Celtic at Hampden Park.

In what was head coach Malky Thomson’s last game in charge of Rangers Women, he was unable to prevent another Old Firm defeat for his side and with it, the chance to secure the second trophy of the season after the Sky Sports League Cup was won earlier in the campaign.

Celtic won the Hampden decider 2-0 after goals from Natasha Flint and Claire O’Riordan, to round off a season of thorough disappointment for the club, overall.

Speaking live on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday today (28 May, 03:11 pm), Stelling could not help himself by taking a jab at the men’s team while giving the updates.

“It’s the Women’s Scottish Cup final today as well,” he said.

“And like the Scottish Premiership, to be honest, it’s going Celtic’s way.”

No more

The season is now over for the men’s and women’s teams and what a disappointment it has been in the big games that matter.

It’s no wonder that Stelling is making a remark like that.

Change is coming with the mass rebuild of Michael Beale’s squad as well as the new direction that the women’s side are taking.

Thomson has failed too many times to deliver, given the players that he has at his disposal. In what is effectively a three-team league along with Celtic and Glasgow City due to the vast gap in resources and player quality, Rangers have been found wanting far too often, over the last couple of seasons.

There has been no significant progress since the SWPL title win last season and the third-place finish this term, means no Champions League place, as the other two big guns prepare to go head-to-head with the best from the continent.

Thankfully, no more disappointment remains with the conclusion of the 2022/23 campaign.

In other Rangers news, Jack Butland gives a one-word response when asked if he’s coming to Ibrox this summer.
