Galatasaray prepare official offer for Ridvan Yilmaz, Rangers want to recoup £3.4m to sell

Galatasaray are preparing an official bid to sign Rangers defender Ridvan Yilmaz this summer, but will have to pay at least £3.4m to land him according to Fotomac.

The Turkish left-back signed for the club from Besiktas last summer in a £4m deal but has struggled to make an impact this season after suffering with a host of injuries.

That lack of game time has given Galatasaray confidence of convincing him to go back to his homeland and the club are preparing an official offer to tempt Rangers, but they have already warned that they won’t sanction a sale unless they at least recoup what they paid for him.

Rangers defender Ridvan Yilmaz

“The yellow-red people, who are polling for the national player wearing the Rangers jersey, are preparing to make an official offer,” they wrote (27 May).

“The Scottish representative does not want to sell the 22-year-old player, whom he transferred for €4m (£3.4m), to a lower figure.”

No chance

Rangers would be absolutely crazy to look to move Ridvan on for anything less than a profit this summer.

There are so many areas of the squad that need to be replenished and strengthened, and with the arrival of the 22-year-old last summer left-back now isn’t one of them.

Borna Barisic is entering the final year of his contract and is in his 30’s now so if any of the players in that position should be moved on it’s him, while the imminent arrival of Dujon Sterling means the club are well covered there too.

But whenever Ridvan has been able to play the club have put together strong performances and he has been able to impress individually too.

A run in the team is all he needed and when being given that opportunity he has taken it. He should be first-choice at Ibrox next season for Rangers, not shining elsewhere after a tough season that saw us give up on him.

In other Rangers news, Graeme Souness has admitted he would “very seriously consider” a return to Ibrox.
