Graeme Souness breaks silence on potential Rangers return after meeting with James Bisgrove
Graeme Souness had admitted he would “very seriously” consider a return to Rangers in some capacity after having a meeting with James Bisgrove.
The club are in the middle of a big reshuffle at board level after several high-profile exits, and there had been reports that Souness was fronting a potential takeover bid.
That was thrown out but after Bisgrove admitted he had held conversations with Souness, the former Ibrox player-manager has admitted in his Mail Plus column (26 May) that he would be open to a return after that meeting.
“I’ve had a meeting with James Bisgrove, who’s the new chief executive at Rangers, about the potential prospect of me going back in some capacity, to help the club,” he wrote.
“Given that I’m a Rangers supporter from being a boy, if I thought I could be of help in any small way, it’s something I would think very seriously about.”

We’ve seen this type of thing work all over the world with club legends involved at highly successful clubs like Ajax, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
There’s no reason it couldn’t work at Rangers too, and Souness would be the perfect man to help bridge that gap between the board and the football side while also holding a connection with the fans.
He knows the game very well and has had success at the highest level as a player and a manager over a long and illustrious career, and bringing that to Ibrox in this period of transition can only be a good thing.
Rangers needs to get into modern times upstairs and that will help Michael Beale to do his job on the pitch by bringing in the best talent to improve our team and squad and closing that gap on Celtic and Europe’s elite.
The fact he has publicly admitted he’s open to a return in that capacity means the club would be absolutely crazy not to bring him in somehow and get him involved.
