‘Excellent’ Ridvan Yilmaz is taking full advantage of Rangers opportunity: journalist

Rangers Review journalist Joshua Barrie hailed the impact of Ridvan Yilmaz as he assisted Fashion Sakala for the opener against St Mirren in Saturday’s Premiership clash.

The Turkish international is thriving in his recent run in Michael Beale’s side as he makes his claim to hold on to the left-back slot for next season.

Barrie described the “excellent” contribution from Ridvan in the 26th minute of the game in Paisley, as the deadlock was broken by Rangers after his through ball allowed the Zambian to attack the Buddies’ box, and he went on to apply the finish.

The journalist, via Twitter, went on to single out the former Besiktas man for his efforts in recent weeks, filling the void left by Borna Barisic.

“Think Ridvan’s taken his chance well these past few games after a tricky season, he said.

“Really impressive pass through the gap for Sakala to break the deadlock.”

Definite progress

Having arrived at Ibrox last summer, it is fair to say that the 22-year old took some time to show what he was all about.

After a significant transfer outlay and his reputation as an international player, questions were being asked as he remained on the sidelines, behind Barisic in the pecking order. His chance finally came in October, then he picked up a hamstring injury that ruled him out for a few months.

Rangers

It is only in the last few weeks, including the Old Firm victory at Ibrox, that Ridvan has displayed his true potential and as shown again today against St Mirren, he is making a trademark of the inside through ball, which are penetrating deep defences that the Gers are often tasked with breaking down in the Scottish Premiership.

It is to his credit that he has seized the opportunity and now he must push on further to greater heights in the new season.
