BBC Scotland pundit stunned by ‘sensational’ James Tavernier moment in Rangers clash v Hibernian
Steven Thompson was left stunned by James Tavernier’s goal in Rangers 3-1 win against Hibernian in Edinburgh on Sunday (21 April).
The Gers captain netted a free-kick from out wide in the 32nd minute of the Scottish Premiership clash at Easter Road.
While the pundit believes Hibs goalkeeper David Marshall will be disappointed with his efforts, Thompson still believes it was a “sensational” strike from Tavernier.

“It’s an incredible goal, it really is,” Thompson said on BBC Sportsound, as quoted by BBC Sport. “I thought he would try and flash it across the face of goal into the six yard box, but he spots Marshall has left the goal open.
“We’ve seen so many times the quality that James Tavernier has from dead balls. That’s sensational, but David Marshall will not be happy with that. The technique, the execution… it’s sensational.”

Fitting moment
Rangers haven’t had much to celebrate this season, with moments of magic like this certain to bring joy to fans of the club, who have had to watch on as fierce rivals Celtic steal all the headlines.
It was a superb hit from Tavernier, whose goal was made even sweeter given how the match marked his 400th Rangers appearance.
The defender scored a free-kick at the same venue on his Gers debut all the way back in 2015, and is still continuing to do it at the highest level all these years later.
While his many goals this season will be welcomed by Michael Beale, it is also slightly worrying, with the manager needing his attackers to also be hitting the back of the net regularly.
But a free-kick specialist like Tavernier is hard to come by, so Beale will be happy for these strikes from outside and indeed inside the box to keep on coming.
In other Rangers news, one pundit has slammed Alfredo Morelos for being “miles off it” this season and urged Everton to avoid signing the striker in the summer transfer window.
