Rangers may need to wait until June 5 to sign Jose Cifuentes to agree transfer fee
Rangers may need to wait until June 5 to seal the transfer of Los Angeles FC midfielder Jose Cifuentes, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.
The same outlet reported earlier this week that the Gers were poised to sign the Ecuadorian international, who is out of contract with the MLS club at the end of the season in December 2023.
However, any possible transfer may have to wait until Cifuentes has played in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League final against Mexican side Leon on June 4.

“It’s likely any agreement on a fee to sign Cifuentes this summer will have to wait until after that match,” The Scottish Daily Mail wrote. [20 May, page 116]

Waiting game
Rangers are already being linked with a host of names ahead of the summer transfer window, but the signature of Cifuentes is among the most exciting.
The 24-year-old has built a strong reputation in the MLS over the last few seasons, amassing just shy of 100 appearances for LAFC and a further 13 caps for his national team.
With Ryan Jack, Nicolas Raskin and Todd Cantwell already at Ibrox and Cifuentes potentially joining soon, Michael Beale looks like he could have all basis’ covered in the middle of the park moving forward.
Jack, who recently signed a new contract extension, brings the experience and know-how and could be crucial to nurturing the linked midfielder into Ibrox if a deal is completed after the CONCACAF final.
The early signs ahead of the transfer window are promising for Rangers – with the likes of Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling and Kieran Dowell nearing moves – while Cifuentes also looks like a smart acquisition if they can get him on a cut-price deal this summer.
In other Rangers news, a much more expensive deal looks to be struggling and a current Ibrox ace has been tipped to fill the void.
