Rangers ‘official’ stance shared as frontrunner emerges for Ibrox role

Reports that Rangers are closing in on a move for Dundee’s head of youth Stephen Wright are wide of the mark, according to 4 Lads Had A Dream.

The Courier had claimed on Friday 19 May, that Wright was a frontrunner to replace Craig Mulholland as the club’s new academy director.

However, the Gers’ official partner claim that the club have “denied” the links to the Dundee man.

“Club have denied that and said it’s completely wide of the mark So that’s the official position on that for what it is worth,” they wrote (4 Lads Had A Dream, Twitter, 19 May).

Pinch of salt

This is why you should take some reports with a pinch of salt. It appeared the links to Wright were fairly concrete, but, as the case with most reports, it could well be speculation.

A new academy head is required, and fast. The youth development at Ibrox has been good over the past couple of years and it’s important somebody comes in to continue the good work laid down by Mulholland. More youngsters need to come through the ranks.

Rangers

We’ve seen in the past how profitable youth prospects can be, with Nathan Patterson earning the club a pretty penny when the sensation completed his move to Everton.

Zak Lovelace is another player who was snapped up from Milwall and has hit the ground running at youth level. The sporadic first-team outing shows that Rangers must be doing something right. Michael Beale will also be hoping for a sporting director to arrive at Ibrox in the coming weeks to assist during his summer rebuild.

In other Rangers news, this report claims that the documents have been signed as the Gers beat Benfica to this new signing.
