Rangers submit £7m bid to sign Haji Wright, 15% clause tied into deal as Antalyaspor respond to offer

Rangers have submitted a £7m bid to sign Antalyaspor striker Haji Wright this summer, according to Turkish journalist Salim Manav.

The 25-year-old American international has enjoyed a superb campaign in the Turkish Super Lig, registering 15 goals and two assists from 25 appearances, leading to plenty of interest in his services [Daily Mail, 8 May].

And according to Ajansspor and Radyospor journalist Manav, taking to his personal Twitter account on 10 May, Rangers have submitted a £7m offer for Wright’s services – a deal including a “15 per cent share” from any potential future sale.

However, the Turkish side have rejected the offer, and are instead demanding an offer of €10m (£8.7m).

Manav tweeted: “Rangers made a transfer offer for Haji Wright to Antalyaspor in the form of £ 7 million plus a 15 per cent share from the second sale.

“Antalyaspor did not accept Rangers’ offer.

“The testimonial expectation for Haji Wright is over 10 million Euros.”

Attractive option

Rangers will be desperately on the lookout for a striker addition this summer, with Alfredo Morelos set to depart Ibrox this summer, and Antonio Colak’s future looking rather uncertain.

With Michael Beale set to undergo a stark and huge rebuild at the club this summer, signing a striker to provide them with the tools to properly challenge Celtic next season will be high on his list of priorities.

Rangers

And signing a player of Wright’s abilities looks an attractive proposition for the Gers. The 25-year-old has undergone a super season in the Turkish top-flight, registering 15 goals and two assists so far this season, meaning he certainly has a number of clubs watching him ahead of this summer.

£8.7m may prove too steep for Rangers’ budget this summer, but their desperation to sign a top-quality striker will be tested and if they are to successfully challenge Celtic next season, signing a forward for such a figure may be their only option.

Wright is arguably worth that figure and with proven goalscorers a rare commodity right now, this move may prove tempting for Beale.
