Michael Beale wants Dujon Sterling reunion at Rangers with double Ibrox signing now close

Rangers boss Michael Beale wants to bring Chelsea defender Dujon Sterling to Ibrox this summer, according to journalist Chris Jack.

His signature would represent a reunion for the duo after they worked together at the Premier League giants, where Beale was a youth team coach.

Transfers for Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland and Norwich City midfielder Kieran Dowell, meanwhile, are reportedly close.

“Michael Beale is targeting a deal for Chelsea defender Dujon Sterling ahead of the new campaign,” Jack wrote for The Herald. “The Ibrox boss will overhaul his squad in the coming weeks after Rangers were once again left empty-handed and with no silverware to show for their below-par efforts this term.

“Moves for keeper Jack Butland and midfielder Kieran Dowell are close as a host of players get set to head for the exit door this summer.

“And former Chelsea coach Beale now hopes to be reunited with Sterling as the 23-year-old considers his options after a successful loan spell in the Championship with Stoke City.”

Exciting times

Rangers supporters haven’t had the best of seasons, being forced to watch on miserably as Celtic picked up more silverware to leave the Gers feeling pretty low.

But that can all be turned around in the summer months if Beale acts quickly and smartly in the transfer window, which looks likely given the impending deals for some exciting players.

Sterling impressed in his loan spell with the Potters, with Beale clearly fully aware of his talent due to their time together at the Blues.

Dowell meanwhile looks certain to follow in the footsteps of former Norwich ace Todd Cantwell, while Butland can become a star between the sticks for the Gers for many years to come if he decides to make a switch to Scotland.

The trio won’t be enough to topple Celtic, but it would be a fine start from Beale, who is now relatively free to work on bringing his targets to Ibrox given how there is very little to play for in the coming weeks.

In other Rangers news, Michael Stewart has stated that one player has been a standout for the Gers in an otherwise disappointing season.
