Barry Ferguson annoyed by what Rangers star Todd Cantwell told media
Barry Ferguson was left annoyed by what Rangers midfielder Todd Cantwell told the media during the week, which he believes isn’t of Ibrox standard.
The January addition claimed “the hunger in the dressing room is going to be real” next season when Michael Beale’s major squad rebuild takes shape this summer.
Cantwell has been one of Michael Beale’s best performers since his move from Norwich City during the winter window, registering three goals and four assists from 12 Scottish Premiership games but that hasn’t stopped Ferguson from expressing his dismay at his comments.

Speaking to the Go Radio Football Show [10 May], he said: “It should be real just now, it shouldn’t need to wait until next season.
“The hunger should be there, simple as that, I can’t explain it any better. When I see things like that, it annoys me, if I’m being honest.”
Accurate
Ferguson is absolutely right, those comments made by Cantwell are very baffling, given the amount the times they’ve been outclassed and outplayed by their Old Firm rivals which have highlighted the gulf in class and hunger to succeed between the two teams.
Certainly, Rangers will be undergoing a hugely important summer but there are no guarantees Beale will be able to secure many of his top targets to add to his squad, so Cantwell’s comments could certainly end up blowing back in his face.

Ferguson is correct in his assessment that the players should be exerting their hunger right, especially with another Old Firm derby to come on Saturday afternoon.
Yes, there’s nothing to play for but many of those players in the Rangers dressing room still have much to prove and they won’t be able to do that without showing the hunger and passion that the Celtic players do on a regular basis. Saturday’s clash should be used as a tool for the Light Blues to make a strong statement ahead of this summer.
Rangers have indeed fallen well below usual Ibrox standards, and Cantwell’s comments really haven’t helped matters. How will it look if Beale isn’t able to secure his priority targets this summer? It’s certainly one of those comments that are better left unsaid or behind the scenes.
