Rangers transfer update: Kieran Dowell signing from Norwich ‘already agreed’

Rangers have already sorted a permanent summer signing with a deal to bring in Kieran Dowell “already agreed”, the Daily Mail reports.

The out-of-contract Norwich midfielder is set to join up with former teammate Todd Cantwell after the Canaries confirmed he would be leaving the club at the end of the season.

Although not yet announced it appears Michael Beale has the first piece of his rebuild in place with the 25-year-old set to move to Glasgow once his contract in Norfolk expires.

The Mail’s Monday (8 May) Transfer Confidential column reported: “The Glasgow club have already agreed to sign midfielder Kieran Dowell who had run down his contract at Norwich City.”

A start

Beale needs plenty of new arrivals and not all of them are going to be headline grabs that get the fanbase too excited given there isn’t a massive transfer budget expected to be available.

Even in that context some may be wondering whether a free transfer for a midfielder who is surplus to requirements in the English second tier is an upgrade on the current options.

But Beale could rightly argue that Cantwell essentially fit that description before his January arrival, and he looks like being an important player going forward.

The 25-year-old scored the winner in the 1-0 victory over Aberdeen on Sunday (7 May), and his age mate appears to be on the brink of following him to Ibrox.

But Rangers’ winter signing had already proven he could be an effective performer in the English Premier League earlier in his career, and it seems that his situation at Carrow Road perhaps had more to it according to cryptic social media posts he has put out since moving.

Former Everton man Dowell also has experience in the top flight south of the border so the hope will be that he can emulate his former and soon-to-be current teammate in a Light Blues shirt.
