Rabbi Matondo exit at Rangers seems nailed as medical complete for Ibrox transfer

Rabbi Matondo seems destined to be one of the first Rangers players to leave Ibrox this summer, despite arriving in Glasgow just last summer.

There was plenty of excitement concerning his signature from Schalke 04, with the youngster anticipated to bring some much-needed attacking flair to the Gers.

But for various reasons, it hasn’t quite worked out for the former Manchester City youth player, who looks certain to make way for new arrivals in what will be a major shakeup at Ibrox this summer, as per the Scottish Daily Mail.

The first of two reasons why Matondo will be moved on is his aforementioned failure to have any major impact in Beale’s team.

The 22-year-old has, of course, been majorly impacted by injury in his debut campaign in Scotland, but he has definitely underwhelmed when handed the opportunity on the pitch. Operating in both right and left wing, he has failed to score in any of his 23 Gers matches so far.

But the second and most significant reason for his impending exit is the impending arrival of Norwich City star Kieran Dowell.

The 25-year-old has already completed a medical at Rangers and will pen a three-year deal at Ibrox this summer, according to the Daily Record.

Comparisons can certainly be drawn between Dowell and current Rangers ace Todd Cantwell, who made the switch from Carrow Road to Ibrox in January.

The latter was in desperate need of a career shakeup and a fresh start, and Beale has certainly given the midfielder that, with Cantwell repaying the faith shown in him with an impressive start to his Rangers career.

Dowell is another who might just be seeking somewhat of a career revival at a major club, given how he couldn’t quite make it at Premier League outfit Everton.

The attacker was sent out on four loans during six years in the senior team at Goodison Park, before eventually being sold to Norwich in 2020.

But the opportunity to play European football at Rangers could reignite his career and bring out his full potential, with Matondo seemingly the unfortunate player required to leave Glasgow in order to free up space for Dowell.

In other Rangers news, one pundit believes the Gers should not pay £5million to Bayern Munich for Malik Tillman and instead bring in someone like Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi.
