Billy Gilmour to return to Rangers, he's wasting his time at Brighton - Peter Martin

PLZ Football Show host Peter Martin has urged Billy Gilmour to return to Rangers and end his time in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old has endured a tough time at Brighton and Hove Albion after securing a £9million move from Chelsea during the summer of 2022 (Sky Sports, 2 September).

Martin has since called on the Scotland international to return to Ibrox and end his time wasting in England’s top flight.

“I’d like to see him back at Rangers and playing regularly rather than wasting his time in the Premier League,” said the former talkSPORT journalist (PLZ Football Show, 31m 43s, 29 March).

Good shout

Gilmour’s time in England has been a resounding failure. The 21-year-old is at a vital stage of his career where he needs to be playing week in and week out. If he continues to stagnate, he simply won’t hit the levels we all know he’s capable of.

Much like Todd Cantwell, moving to Ibrox to revive his career would be a smart move. He would consistently feature under Michael Beale and could finally fulfil his potential. He’s gained a lot of experience during his stint down south and would be an excellent addition if the Gers could get a deal over the line.

However, considering the price Brighton paid for the diminutive midfielder, they are unlikely to part ways unless they can recoup what they dished out for the former Chelsea man.

Considering the transfer fees thrashed out in the Premier League, this is a move which would be hard to finance from Rangers’ perspective.
