BBC Sport voters want Rangers ace Ryan Jack axed from Scotland XI after media grilling
BBC Sport voters have called for Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack to be axed from Scotland’s starting XI for their Euro 2024 qualifying match against Spain on Tuesday (28 March).
It comes after the midfielder was ridiculed by a number of national newspapers after he was substituted during Scotland’s 3-0 win over Cyprus on Saturday (28 March).
Jack started and played 67 minutes in the victory at Hampden Park, but Scotland fans now want him removed from the starting XI for Spain’s visit to Glasgow.
“Ryan Christie and Scott McTominay to start in place of Stuart Armstrong and Ryan Jack for Scotland against Spain. Those are the changes receiving most support after we asked you to pick your starting XI for Tuesday’s Euro 2024 qualifier at Hampden Park,” according to BBC Sport.
“Bournemouth’s Christie and Manchester United’s McTominay made an impact as substitutes in Saturday’s win over Cyprus, with the latter scoring twice. Votes suggest Southampton’s Armstrong and Rangers’ Jack should make way.”

It was perhaps easy for national media to pick out Jack’s somewhat ineffective display against Cyprus, primarily because his replacement McTominay was the hero of the day with a late brace.
For the same reason, many supporters now want the Man United midfielder to start against European heavyweights Spain, with Jack urged to be benched by manager Steve Clarke.
Jack has performed admirably alongside Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor in recent years for Scotland, but it would not be a surprise to see the Rangers man axed for McTominay.
With Scotland looking to score more goals, McTominay is much more of a threat in that area than Jack, with the former able to get forward to help the attackers much better than the latter.
It would certainly be a blow to both Jack and indeed for Rangers if the midfielder was dropped for a player not playing regular club football at the minute.
But Jack will accept the decision in any case, fully in the knowledge that Clarke will be picking the most appropriate team that he thinks is capable of causing a massive upset.
