Kris Boyd reacts as Rangers fan footage emerges before SPFL clash v Motherwell

Kris Boyd has reacted to Rangers fans protesting against the board before the Scottish Premiership win over Motherwell on Saturday 18 March.

It was a positive day on the pitch as Michael Beale’s side ran out 4-2 winners to ensure they keep the pressure on Celtic at the top of the table.

However, Boyd has suggested unrest will continue to grow at Ibrox due to frustrations over decisions being made by those on the board.

“Rangers have said they are going to do certain things but it’s not really happened at this moment in time. Stewart Robertson is in the picture there as well,” said Boyd (Sky Sports coverage, 12:28 pm, 18 March).

“When it gets to a stage where fans are frustrated and they start to have a go at the board it’s very difficult to stop. It seems to be growing by the week

“Robertson and especially Ross Wilson are going to be judged by the recruitment side of it and it’s not been good enough. The fans have been frustrated and there are ways you can protest and we don’t want to see anything happen where the game gets stopped and incidents outside the grounds.”

It’s now clear what the fans want. Change is now required at Ibrox. The board have slept walked into a scenario where Celtic are now in a significantly stronger position and, at present, the gap is only getting bigger.

There have been baby steps made during the January window, with Nicolas Raskin and Todd Cantwell joining the club, but further work is now required in the summer.

The significance of this summer’s transfer window cannot be understated. There are a number of players who are out of contract and Michael Beale has the perfect chance to make sweeping changes to his squad. Quality is required and all eyes will be on the board, particularly Ross Wilson.

Wilson simply has to land the right players and failure to do so could leave his position at the club reaching an untenable point.

The win over Motherwell continues the Gers’ excellent domestic record, but, as we all know, the club and the board will be judged on trophies and how they match up against their Old Firm rivals.
