Rangers player ratings v Motherwell: Antonio Colak woeful, James Tavernier shines

Rangers continued their impressive Scottish Premiership form with a 4-2 win over Motherwell on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from James Tavernier, Fashion Sakala, Todd Cantwell and Malik Tillman saw Michael Beale’s side come from behind once again.

Here Ibrox News rates the players out of ten for their performances at Fir Park on Saturday (18 March).

Allan McGregor 6

He couldn’t do anything with Van Veen’s opener. After that moment it was essentially attack against defence. However, he probably could’ve done a lot better with Motherwell’s second, which was a shambles defensively.

James Tavernier 8

Two excellent moments of quality put the Gers in control. Was untroubled defensively but it was his attacking work which caught the eye. His pinpoint free-kick and delivery for Sakala were simply outstanding. One of the stand-out performers at Fir Park.

Connor Goldson – 6

Was caught slightly too high for the home side’s opener and played Van Veen onside. Was at ease after that moment and didn’t misplace a pass. He couldn’t play too many of his trademark switches due to the small and congested pitch at Fir Park. Will be extremely disappointed with Mugabi’s equaliser.

Ben Davies 6

Similar to Goldson. Will be disappointed with the early goal, but was unflappable after that moment. Van Veen was a threat throughout but the Rangers defender dealt with the lively forward well.

Ridvan Yilmaz – 7

He deputised well for the in-form Barisic. Deserves credit for taking risks and looking to be positive whenever he could. Showed some neat moments on the ball and was relatively comfortable defensively. However, his radar was slightly off when it came to his crossing.

Ryan Jack 6

Solid performance from the midfielder. Kept the ball moving well in the middle of the park to break down what was a stubborn home defence. Disciplined and responsible display from Jack.

John Lundstram 5

Quiet and dependable from Lundstram. There was no need for the midfielder to commit forward, particularly late on in the second half. Kept things tidy with Jack in the middle of the park.

Todd Cantwell 7

Really impressive from the January signing. He drew plenty of fouls and looked to take risks in an attacking sense. Dropped deep and tried to spin in behind and get in the box whenever he could. Exactly the type of player which is required when facing a stubborn back line. Clever and impressive performance from the 25-year-old who deserved his goal.

Fashion Sakala – 6

His impressive goalscoring run under Beale continues, although this wasn’t his best performance. He struggled to run in behind as much as he would’ve liked but still played a big role in two goals. Excellent header gave the Gers an early second-half lead.

Ryan Kent – 6

Not his busiest performance, but Kent still worked well with Cantwell in attacking midfield. The 26-year-old is enjoying drifting across the front line and the Gers are reaping the rewards. Good work from Kent.

Antonio Colak – 2

That was absolutely dreadful from the Croatian. He failed to hold the ball up and missed two guilt edge second-half chances. Furthermore, he was at fault for Motherwell’s equalising goal. He should have just cleared the ball. Rightfully hooked off in the 65th minute. One to forget for Colak.
