Rangers should release defender now, first-team star duo must also leave – Daily Record journo

Rangers defender Fillip Helander should be released from Ibrox, with Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos following him out the exit door after their contract uncertainty, according to Daily Record journalist Craig Swan.

Helander has become something of a forgotten man at Ibrox, having been ravaged by injuries for much of the season so far, and with his contract running out this summer, Swan believes the Gers must cut all ties.

The journalist believes the same must be said about two of the club’s most prized assets in Kent and Morelos who have yet to commit their long-term futures to the Light Blues.

Writing in the Saturday Jury for the Daily Record [18 February, pg 63], Swan said: “The likes of Filip Helander should be released. Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos should be among the first ones out.

“You’d think if they were committed, they would’ve re-signed by now.”

Keep Kent & Morelos

Helander has endured a torrid time of injuries at the Ibrox which has certainly led to frustrations among the club hierarchy, and with his contract running out this summer, there is simply no chance the Swedish international remains at the Gers beyond this summer.

However, Swan is right about Kent & Morelos. The fact that the two of Beale’s most prized possessions right now have not signed new deals is certainly concerning, but considering the huge part they are still to play in the former Queens Park Rangers manager’s quest for glory at Ibrox, their futures must remain the club’s priorities.

Rangers

It would be incredibly silly of Rangers to let them go. Why release two of your best players on free transfers when you know your Old Firm rivals will certainly be strengthening for next season?

The Gers may not find any better players out there considering the market we’re in right now. Both players have been superb since Beale walked through the door in Scotland, and the two players remain key figures both for the present and the future.

Those new contracts have got to be signed.

In other Rangers news, a club in Europe holds the option to re-sign a player from Ibrox whenever they like.
