Sky Sports journalist shares official Rangers statement update on Nicolas Raskin live outside Auchenhowie

Nicolas Raskin’s move to Rangers is getting closer with the completion of the deal likely to happen in the near future, although things aren’t completely final yet, according to Sky Sports journalist Gordon Duncan.

The 21-year-old midfielder has long been a target for the Gers this month, as Michael Beale looks to complete his second addition, having signed Todd Cantwell from Norwich City [Sky Sports, 23 January].

Raskin’s club Standard Liege drove a hard bargain in regards to the details of the move the Gers boss Michael Beale looks to have got his top target as it is understood the midfielder “will finalise his move in Glasgow ahead of Tuesday’s deadline”.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on 30 January, that the Gers had reached a full agreement to sign Raskin, with the paperwork set to be finalized and his contracts signed.

And now Sky Sports journalist Duncan provided an update live on Sky Sports News [3:12pm] on when the Gers can officially announce their second January capture.

He said live from outside Auchenhowie: “It’s getting closer. It’s been a name the Rangers fans have been interested in for a couple of weeks and it does look like that one will happen in the very near future.

“It’s a player Michael Beale knows having played against Standard Liege and Nicolas Raskin when he was here previously under Steven Gerrard. He said after the game on Saturday he wanted to bring in a central player and it looks like that player is Nicolas Raskin.

“Things aren’t completely final yet, the official confirmation is a little bit off with Michael Beale trying to keep his cards close to his chest in today’s press conference.”

Stunning acquisition

Rangers are clearly after quality this month, and Raskin represents the perfect opportunity for Beale to refresh his squad with emerging talent.

The 21-year-old is the perfect profile for what he wants to bring into Ibrox this month, Young, agile, technically gifted and a player worthy of building a team around, the Belgian talent is just the tonic Rangers need.

Beale will be desperate to get this deal done as he aims to build the squad into his image.

Considering his huge potential and his perfect match to Beale’s style at the club, we believe that Raskin is a stunning acquisition for the Scottish giants, and the perfect tonic for the club to go and acquire more talents to build towards a successful and sustainable future at Ibrox.

Raskin could well form the bedrock of this Gers side for years to come alongside new signing Cantwell, morphing into the complete midfielder whilst aiding the club in their pursuit of titles under Beale’s guidance.

In other Rangers news, a club in Europe holds the option to re-sign a player from Ibrox whenever they like.
