Chris Sutton takes swipe at ‘thin-skinned’ Todd Cantwell in Rangers rant
Chris Sutton has labelled new Rangers signing Todd Cantwell as “thin-skinned” and believes he will either sink or swim in the Old Firm goldfish bowl.
The Gers confirmed ex-Norwich City player Cantwell as Michael Beale’s first signing since taking the reigns at the Glasgow club and getting stuck straight in.
However, speaking on Scottish Football Extra on BT Sport (Friday 27 January), pundit Sutton questioned whether the 24-year-old could live up to expectations at Ibrox and suggested he didn’t possess the quality to win major trophies with the Gers.

He said: “I think he backs himself. I think he’s shown he’s a really talented player, but that was a couple of seasons ago. There is a huge talent in there and it’s up to Michael Beale to get that out of him.
“My issue with Todd is I think he’s a little bit thin-skinned, I really do. I think he’s touchy with things, and you can’t be that in the Glasgow environment. I think he backs himself.
“He has to hit the ground running. It’s all about attitude with him but there’s certainly a player in there.
“I wish him well and I hope Rangers finish in the top half and get to cup semi-finals with him in the team.”

Bold call
It would be hard for Sutton to stay quiet on any transfer that Rangers make, but you can’t help he may end up eating his own words in the not-so-distant future.
Cantwell looks to be a brilliant bit of business by the Gers at a relatively cheap price, and the ex-Canaries ace can definitely make an impact on proceedings at Ibrox this season.
The former England Under-21 international has a creative flair that few others in Beale’s side do, and his ability to pick a pass will be a great asset for Rangers.
It is unlikely Cantwell will come straight into the starting XI after being benched for the majority of the last two months, and it may therefore take the playmaker a little bit of time to get up to full fitness.
However, if Cantwell can rediscover the form that made him one of the most highly-touted youngsters in the Premier League, Sutton will definitely be eating humble pie.
In other Rangers news, a club in Europe holds the option to re-sign a player from Ibrox whenever they like.
