Charlie Adam: Alex Lowry must earn Rangers first-team minutes under Michael Beale
Charlie Adam believes Alex Lowry isn’t going to be gifted first-team minutes for Rangers this season and must “earn his chance” to shine under Michael Beale.
The Gers youngster has played only 73 minutes of first-team football this season, and speculation regarding his future has subsequently started to arise.
Considering the signing of Todd Cantwell from Norwich earlier this month and Ianis Hagi’s return from injury – both of whom play in Lowry’s position – the 19-year-old may have fallen even further down the pecking order at Ibrox.

As shared by the Daily Record (Saturday 28 January), former Gers hero Adam urged the versatile midfielder to remain “patient” in his chase for more regular minutes.
“I would like to see more of Alex Lowry – but he has to remain patient and earn his chance,” he told Grosvenor Sport.
“Yes, I would like to see more of Alex Lowry, but he’s got to earn it.
“He’s got to be patient and bide his time. Michael Beale likes him so there’s nothing for him to worry about but he just has to be prepared and be ready for when his next opportunity comes along.”

Tough competition
Lowry could certainly do with more first-team minutes at this stage of his career, but it seems he is going to be a regular feature on the bench for the remainder of the season. Beale confirmed the attacking midfielder wouldn’t be leaving the club this January despite rumours of a loan deal away from Ibrox.
Playing with the youth setup would do his development no good, yet his lack of action with the first team is no better. This has left Lowry in a sticky scenario, and the only way he can solve this is by proving to Beale he deserves a regular spot from the first whistle with a string of strong performances.
Hagi is still going to take a little bit of time getting himself back to full fitness, while Cantwell wasn’t exactly pulling up trees at Carrow Road prior to his move, so there is still a glimmer of opportunity for the youngster.
In other Rangers news, a club in Europe holds the option to re-sign a player from Ibrox whenever they like.
