Rangers to announce Nicolas Raskin signing after Charlie McCann exit confirmed

Charlie McCann has completed his move to Forest Green Rovers – and that could well open the door for Rangers to announce the signing of Nicolas Raskin.

The Gers confirmed on Tuesday (24 January) that McCann has joined Forest Green Rovers on a permanent deal after he signed for the club in the summer of 2021.

Walfoot report (24 January) the Light Blues are closing in on a move for Standard Liege contract rebel Raskin, and after the departure of fellow midfielder McCann, the board could well be gearing up for an announcement to be made.

We knew there would have to be departures at Ibrox, and it’s now become clear Michael Beale has identified which players he has deemed surplus to requirements. Raskin would be an excellent addition to Gers’ midfield and also a long-term project for the new boss.

With Todd Cantwell already arriving and Morgan Whittaker also being linked with the Light Blues, Beale is evidently keen to work with and develop the players that he brings to the club.

There certainly needs to be a bit more in terms of longer-term planning at Rangers. The goalkeeping situation is the perfect example of the club failing to cast an eye to the future. Both Jon McLaughlin and Allan McGregor are in the final stages of their careers and at present, there’s no obvious solution.

It appears Beale is trying to avoid a similar scenario happening in midfield and attack, with Raskin seemingly on his way to the Gers.

In other Rangers newsthe club want to sign this South American ace who’s playing in Europe.
