Rangers want to sign Ecuadorian defender William Pacho from Antwerp, Monaco also in pursuit
Rangers want to sign Ecuadorian defender William Pacho from Antwerp in the January transfer window, according to a report from Het Nieuwsblad.
The Bears have scouted the player several times and they now want to push through the deal, as per reliable South American sources.
Pacho, 21, has been a regular starter for Antwerp this season, and the Gers are likely to face competition from Monaco to secure his signature.
He was signed by Antwerp in January 2022 from Independiente, and it remains to be seen if the club will sell him. If they do, Antwerp are expected to demand a premium price for the youngster.
Pacho appears to be a terrific young talent and he has been a key part of Antwerp’s defence.
The youngster was also part of the Equador World Cup squad which proves his potential, and the Bears must do everything to bring him to Ibrox.
The defence is one area Michael Beale probably feels the need to bolster.
Since the departure of Calvin Bassey, the Bears haven’t been able to properly fill his void despite signing Ben Davies from Liverpool.
Beale has got Connor Goldson, John Souttar, Filip Helander, and Davies as options, while James Sands can play in central defence as well.
Leon King is developing into a quality defender for the club as well, but it appears that the Gers are still looking to add one more defender to their ranks.
Souttar is injury prone while doubts remain over the future of Helander at the club. So, a new defender is required, and Pacho looks like a fantastic young talent.
