Rangers agree transfer fee with Standard Liege for Nicolas Raskin - Fourth Official

Rangers have agreed a transfer fee with Standard Liege to sign Nicolas Raskin this month, according to a report by Fourth Official.

The Gers secured the Belgian youngster on a pre-contract agreement earlier this week, with the player undergoing medical tests this week and agreeing a 4.5 year contract at Ibrox.

Now it’s being reported that an agreement has been found between the clubs to bring the deal forward to this month after Rangers chiefs flew to Liege to thrash out a deal, and the player has even already held talks with Michael Beale.

Writing on his Patreon account (25 January), they said;

“Rangers have reached an agreement with Standard Liege for the transfer of Nicolas Raskin. Personal terms had already been agreed with the Belgian.

“I don’t know the transfer fee but as reports indicate elsewhere the price is probably between £900k and £2.2m.

“He has already held conversations with Beale, as the new Rangers manager looks to make his own mark on the squad.”

Rangers needed midfield reinforcements in this window after Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara and John Lundstram were the only real options in central midfield, with Charlie McCann leaving on a permanent deal.

Raskin is only 21-years-old and is able to come straight into the side and make an immediate impact, so this can only be seen as a good thing.

Beale has made it very clear that he wants a specific type of player and character in the squad and having already brought in Todd Cantwell and then held conversations with Raskin, it seems he fits that mould.

He has great technical qualities and will bring a tenacity to the side, while also bringing the average age down and being a cut-price deal it helps the club financially too.

It’s great news for Rangers and the club have finally come alive in the transfer window to give Beale what he needs to run Celtic all the way this season and potentially win the cups.

In other Rangers news, the club are braced for a bid from one European club in this window.
