Tammy Abraham sends message to Todd Cantwell as Rangers complete new transfer
Tammy Abraham has sent a brilliant message to Todd Cantwell on Instagram after the midfielder completed his move to Rangers from Norwich City on Monday (23 January).
The 24-year-old, who has become Michael Beale’s first signing as Rangers manager, has signed a long-term deal at Ibrox after what felt like weeks of speculation.
The attacking midfielder came through the Norwich academy but fell out of favour with new boss David Wagner ahead of his new start in Glasgow.
“We’ve got the battle fever on,” wrote Cantwell on Instagram after he completed the move.
“Let’s go lil (little) bro,” responded Abraham.
Abraham currently plays for AS Roma, and he knows Cantwell from their England Under 21 days.
Cantwell made 129 appearances for the Canaries and has got Premier League experience as well. He played 45 games in the Premier League and has had loan spells with Bournemouth and Fortuna Sittard.
Michael Beale stressed the importance of adding players who will only improve the first-team squad, and Cantwell looks like a cracking addition.
The attacking midfielder loves to dribble and get into areas where he can play out key passes. He is likely to challenge the likes of Ryan Kent and Malik Tillman for starting roles.
It remains to be seen whether his arrival could pave the way for Scott Wright’s departure at the club, who has played a peripheral role this season.
Keith Jackson of The Daily Record (23 January) hailed him as a “huge talent”, but at the same time, Cantwell needs to prove himself at Ibrox.
Playing for Rangers comes with huge pressure and expectations. His performances in recent years have been very poor, but it’s a fresh new start for him.
In other Rangers news, the Gers want to offer a four-and-a-half-year contract to seal the signing of this European ace.
