Rangers want to sign Nicolas Raskin ASAP, offering 4.5 year contract - 4th official
Rangers are serious about signing Nicolas Raskin as soon as possible and are to offer him a 4.5 year deal at Ibrox, according to The 4th Official.
The Bears have been long linked with the Belgian maestro after he turned down a new contract at Standard Liege earlier this season, putting him in the shop window (Dean Jones, 27 December).
And Rangers are now ready to make their move for the 21-year-old and want to bring him to the club “ASAP”, according to a new post on their Patreon account (20 January).
“Rangers are serious about getting Nicolas Raskin at the club in the next few days,” they said.
“That is according to several sources I spoke with including one at Rangers and one Belgian source.
“Rangers have been in talks with the player for some time now. The expectation is that the player wants to come ot Rangers.
“Rangers want a 4 and a half years contract. Negotiations are also ongoing with Standard Liege for a few days now.”
Long-term
Rangers have been active in the transfer market when it comes to negotiations and talking to players, but no deals have been completed as we enter the final third of the month.
Todd Cantwell is seemingly close to a deal with a medical scheduled, while Morgan Whittaker is also someone that Rangers have been linked with having made a bid for too.
But Raskin has been a long-term target, described as “excellent” for his defensive work, stretching back to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s tenure at the club and it seems as though the background work has already been done.
With the Belgian club wanting £2.2m and a 20% sell-on clause to do a deal, it’s well within what the club would usually spend and he would strengthen an area of the pitch that desperately needs it.
It looks like a great bit of business and it finally seems as though the board are shifting in to gear to get a deal done this month to strengthen Michael Beale’s side.
In other Rangers news, Beale has confirmed that one player has suffered an injury setback in training.
