Rangers look to seal £880,000 deal for Nicolas Raskin with transfer imminent

Rangers can seal a transfer for Nicolas Raskin for a fee of £880,000 with Ibrox bosses flying to Belgium to wrap up a deal, according to Sacha Tavolieri.

The Gers have already agreed a four-and-a-half year deal with the Belgian midfielder for a summer transfer, with Raskin out of contract in his homeland at the end of the season.

But Tavolieri is reporting that Rangers bosses are on their way to Liege for talks with Standard about bringing him in now, and he wrote that a deal could be closed for around £880,000 before the deadline.

“Nicolas Raskin passed 2 rounds of medical examinations this week and was well in London on Tuesday and Friday for a thorough examination,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (24 January).

“Le Standard is claiming 2.5M€ (£2.2m) + [percentage] at resale for the [midfielder] of RSCL but the deal could close at ~1M€ (£880k).”

Cut-price

Standard’s demands for a transfer have been set out from the start. They want £2.2m plus a percentage of any future sale, but Rangers are the club with all the leverage here.

A deal for Raskin to arrive in Glasgow at Ibrox at the end of the season is in place, and Rangers won’t pay a penny to get it done because his contract is expiring.

Obviously they want him in now to help bolster the midfield and provide competition for Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara and John Lundstram, but they won’t be held to ransom for a transfer.

Standard Liege need to set their stance out and negotiate high and hard, but the likelihood of them sticking to that is basically at zero.

Rangers will almost certainly now push ahead to get a deal done quickly, and with the bosses flying out to Belgium to hash it out it shouldn’t be too long until we hear news whether positive or negative about this deal.
