Morgan Whittaker could 'definitely' be regular starter under Michael Beale at Rangers - Charlie Adam

Charlie Adam believes Swansea attacker Morgan Whittaker could “definitely” be a regular starter in Michael Beale’s Rangers side if snapped up by the club this January.

The Gers have already had two bids rejected for the 22-year-old after a stunning start to the season on loan at League One table-toppers Plymouth Argyle.

The attacker was absent from the Swansea squad for their Championship clash at the weekend after being recalled from his loan, further hinting at a move north of the border.

As reported by the Scottish Daily Express, the former Gers midfielder said: “Whittaker is a good player who is on the radar of a lot of clubs.

“He’s had a lot of good loans and has done really well at Plymouth. Michael Beale only wants to add players who will affect the first XI and Morgan will definitely add something to the team.

“Swansea are never going to be happy with the bids for Morgan Whittaker because you never go in with your highest transfer offer first. Russell Martin doesn’t need to play it out in the media, he should keep it all in-house and just say that you’re not happy with it.”

Whittaker is bang in form and represents good value for money, so there is no reason for Rangers to hold back in their transfer pursuit of him.

So far this season, the Gers have lacked a little imagination in the attacking third and relied to heavily on Ryan Kent to dig them out of trouble, so some fresh legs and fresh ideas would be warmly welcomed by Beale.

Whittaker has been in blistering form for Plymouth so far this term, netting nine goals and assisting a further seven from just 25 appearances.

The step up from League One football to playing for Rangers at Ibrox is a sizeable one, so Beale would be unlikely to throw the young attacker into the starting lineup straight away.

However, as an impact sub in the latter stages of matches, he could still play an equally important role with his direct running and quick feet.

With Fashion Sakala returning to form recently and Kent nailed on for a spot in attack, Whittaker would need to earn his spot in the starting XI over time if he completes his move to Glasgow before the January transfer deadline next week.
