Tom English slams Michael Beale as BBC Scotland show clip of what Rangers manager said about Celtic
Tom English has slammed Michael Beale after the Rangers manager suggested Ange Postecoglou was lucky to have the resources he has available to him.
Beale has previously suggested (21 January) that the Celtic boss along with himself are the most fortunate coaches in Scotland due to the finances they have at their disposal.
However, English was less than impressed with the comments from the new Rangers boss and has suggested Postecoglou’s success hasn’t happened “by chance”.
“It’s got nothing to do with luck, has it? Well-run club buys and sells astutely and makes a profit on player trading to help fund a rebuild under a new manager. The fact that AP had money to spend didn’t happen by chance,” said the BBC Sport Scotland journalist (via Twitter, 22 January).
Right and wrong
The platform that Beale and Postecoglou have allows for them to make intelligent moves in the transfer windows. A number of Scottish Premiership sides don’t have the funds to pay fees for players on a regular basis and when they do look to unearth a new player, the Old Firm can often get there before them.
Celtic’s transfer business has been impressive in recent years and it’s now time for the Gers to react. Nicolas Raskin, Todd Cantwell and Morgan Whittaker have all been linked to Ibrox in recent weeks and if the Gers can get all three deals over the line it would have been a remarkable first window for Beale.
He’s the type of manager who will look to develop players over and provide the club with some long-term assets – much like their Old Firm rivals have done.
A title push does look like a pipe dream at the moment, but with two or three quality additions, there is every chance the Gers could put a little bit more pressure on Ange Postecoglou’s men.
In other Rangers news, the Gers want to offer a four-and-a-half-year contract to seal the signing of this European ace.
