Standard Liege chiefs order Nicolas Raskin to be axed to reserves as Rangers agree personal terms
Standard Liege chiefs have ordered Nicolas Raskin to be axed to the reserves as the 21-year-old closes in on a move to Rangers, according to the Sunday Mail.
According to HLN [20 January, 18:29] the Gers have beaten two Belgium clubs to the signing of the midfielder, having already agreed personal terms.
The Sunday Mail now claim (page 71, Jan 22) Standard Liege manager Ronny Deila has been ordered by club chiefs to “dump” the midfielder into the reserves until his future is resolved.
Get it done
It appears Liege are eager to get the 21-year-old off their books and that could allow Rangers to secure a cut-price move for the highly-rated youngster. Raskin continues a consistent trend when it comes to the players Michael Beale is looking to sign.
Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell is closing in on a move to Ibrox and Swansea City sensation Morgan Whittaker has also been linked with a move north of the border. If the Gers managed to land all three players this month it would’ve been a brilliant first transfer window for the new boss.
He’s evidently looking at younger players who can be developed during their time at Ibrox – and subsequently, help the Light Blues in the long run. A title push does seem unlikely in the 2022/23 campaign, but with the addition of three quality players, the pressure could certainly be put on Celtic as the season comes to a close.
In other Rangers news, the Gers want to offer a four-and-a-half-year contract to seal the signing of this European ace.
