Rangers transfer update as Nicolas Raskin yet to complete medical in January

Reports that Nicolas Raskin has completed his Rangers medical are wide of the mark, according to the Daily Record.

Belgium media outlet Le Soir suggested (20 January) that the 21-year-old has already passed his medical ahead of finalising his move to Ibrox.

However, Record Sport have since claimed (20 January) the Standard Liege midfielder is not close to completing his move to the Scottish giants “at this stage”.

The reports coming out of Belgium did seem slightly too good to be true.

There’s clear interest from the Gers and if they can pull off a move it would be a superb piece of work from the club. Michael Beale is eager to add youth to his squad and Raskin would certainly provide that.

The 21-year-old is highly rated in his homeland and he would be a long-term project should he make the move to Ibrox. Todd Cantwell also looks set to complete his move to Rangers, with Sky Sports suggesting a deal has now been agreed upon with Norwich for the 24-year-old midfielder.

If Rangers can land Cantwell and Raskin it would represent a superb transfer window for Beale. This squad desperately needed a refresh and it appears the former QPR boss along with the board have been hard at work behind the scenes to get these potential moves to the verge of completion.

In other Rangers news, the club want to offer an “excellent” midfielder a 4.5 year deal to join Ibrox “ASAP” according to a report.
