We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox

Tam McManus has heard that Rangers are on the verge of signing Todd Cantwell from Norwich while talk about a move for Everton’s Tom Davies has “gone cold”.

The Daily Record reported on 15 January that the Gers were weighing up an approach for the 24-year-old Goodison midfielder, who’ll be out of contract in the summer.

However, a move is accelerating for Norwich’s 24-year-old midfielder Cantwell.

Sky Sports reported on 19 January that the former England Under-21s international is close to signing for the Light Blues with his move subject to a medical.

McManus believes that it’s gone quiet on the Davies front because Rangers have pursued a deal for Cantwell instead.

“Cantwell is close to being done from what I’ve heard,” McManus told Ibrox News.

“I think the Cantwell deal will go ahead but the Tom Davies one has gone cold.

I think both of them are 24; it’s a good age, good legs and add energy to the midfield.

Maybe Rangers just wanted one of them and they were going for two.

Cantwell will sign for Rangers but it’s gone quiet on Davies but he’s played 145 Premier League games for Everton – he’s got a great pedigree. He’s been capped by England as well.

He’d be a good signing as well but it’s colder than the Cantwell one.”

Cantwell has played 18 times in the English Championship for Norwich this season.

However, only nine of those appearances have been as a starter and he’s not played at all for the Canaries since they lost 2-1 at home against Middlesbrough on 12 November.

In other Rangers news, the Gers want to offer a four-and-a-half-year contract to seal the signing of this European ace.
