Michael Beale shares Kemar Roofe injury update at Rangers ahead of clash v St Johnstone

Michael Beale has confirmed that Rangers striker Kemar Roofe will be out for four weeks, which means he will be out until the middle of February.

The Bears will face St Johnstone in the Scottish FA Cup on Saturday (21 January) and they will be without Roofe for his game.

Beale has added that Roofe will not require any surgery and that he is feeling better at the moment.

“Michael Beale: Kemar Roofe will be around four weeks out, it is feeling better and will not require surgery,” the club tweeted.

Roofe has struggled with injuries throughout the season, and has barely featured. He has managed only four appearances in all competitions and has scored just one goal.

The 30-year-old striker recently recovered from calf problems that had kept him out since October, but he has now picked up a shoulder injury.

Future

Roofe has a contract at the club until 2024, and it remains to be seen whether he will be at Ibrox next season.

The former Leeds striker has hardly played this season and he didn’t get the opportunity to impress Beale.

Roofe was linked with a move away from Ibrox in the summer [Daily Record], but the deal didn’t materialise. Unless Beale has plans for him, his future at the club looks uncertain.

Make no mistake, he is a fantastic player but he is also a conundrum for his manager, for any manager for that matter.

He can operate as a striker but he is behind Alfredo Morelos and Antonio Colak in the pecking order.

Roofe can play behind the striker but the Gers have loads of options in that position. He can also play on the wings but doesn’t have the pace to trouble the opponent.

Nevertheless, he can be a utility player for the club, but Rangers should look to sell him in the summer. He is too injury-prone, and better players are needed in his position.

In other Rangers news, the Gers want to offer a four-and-a-half-year contract to seal the signing of this European ace.
