Sky Sports News shares what Swansea source says about Rangers bid to sign Morgan Whittaker

Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas has revealed Rangers are “miles away” from Swansea’s valuation of attacking midfielder Morgan Whittaker.

Russell Martin has confirmed Rangers have had a bid rejected for the 22-year-old, however, it has been suggested an agreement could still be reached (BBC Sport, 18 January).

Thomas has since revealed (via Twitter, 19 January) that Whittaker is set to be involved for the South Wales club at QPR on Saturday (21 January).

“Swansea source has told Sky Sports News that Rangers are miles away from the club’s valuation and Whittaker likely to be involved for Swansea on Saturday,” wrote the Sky Sports journalist.

Up it

Now is the perfect time for the board to show their support and back Michael Beale when it comes to Whittaker. The Rangers boss clearly wants to land the 22-year-old, who has impressed whilst on loan at Plymouth Argyle in the first half of the 2022/23 campaign.

The Light Blues are likely to try again for Whittaker and the board must ensure they respond with a credible bid. If another bid which is well short arrives, the Championship side could become disinterested in trying to complete a deal with Rangers.

The 22-year-old would represent a long-term signing for the Gers and would be reminiscent of when Joe Aribo made the move from League One side Charlton to Ibrox. He has 16 goals and assists in the first half of the season and could well go on to improve further under the stewardship of Beale.

This is a transfer saga which looks like it’s going to go the distance.
