Ally McCoist tears into Ryan Kent after 'shocking' Rangers moment in win v Kilmarnock

Ally McCoist has torn into Ryan Kent after the Rangers winger produced a “shocking” pass in the second half of the Gers’ 3-2 win over Kilmarnock.

The 26-year-old put in an impressive display at Rugby Park which was topped off with an exquisite finish to give the Light Blues a 3-1 lead.

However, Kent didn’t enjoy his best moment early on in the second half when he overhit a simple pass to Fashion Sakala out for a goal kick, and McCoist was less than impressed.

“That’s a shocking pass it really is,” said McCoist (Sky Sports commentary, 21:03, 18 January).

“He does the right thing to allow the ball back out to Sakala. His movement is right but the weight of the pass is really poor.”

Apart from the misplaced pass, it was another dynamic performance from Kent who is thriving in the free role which has been given to him by Beale. His ability to pick up pockets of space and turn quickly is proving to be a useful attacking outlet for Rangers of late.

It appears the 26-year-old is enjoying life under Michael Beale and there could still be a chance he commits his longer-term future to the club. His contract is set to expire in the summer of 2023 and as of yet, no news has emerged regarding a new deal.

With Kent seemingly enjoying his football again and making a positive impact on the pitch, there could well be a chance of him extending his stay at Ibrox.

He’s highly rated in Scotland and will be guaranteed consistent game time under Beale. If he moved to a Premier League side, there’s a chance he could play a bit-part role instead of being the main man.
