Ally McCoist loses mind over 'absolutely' mental' Daniel Armstrong incident in Rangers win v Kilmarnock
Ally McCoist has slammed Kilmarnock winger Daniel Armstrong after he was sent off for an elbow on Borna Barisic in Killie’s 3-2 defeat to Rangers.
The 25-year-old was shown a second yellow card late on in the game after being Kilmarnock’s standout player in the first period.
McCoist was left baffled by the incident and couldn’t believe the level of “stupidity” shown by the wide man.
“Absolutely mental. He knows he’s been booked and he sticks his elbow into Barisic’s chin. Have some of that and go for an early bath,” said McCoist (Sky Sports commentary, 21:18, 18 January).
“It’s stupidity. It baffles me it really does. I couldn’t have been more complimentary of him because he’s been brilliant but he goes and does something like that and lets the fans and teammates down. That’s crazy.”

It was an absolutely outrageous elbow from Armstrong and it was probably a red card just on its own. In fact, he’s lucky he was booked before because he would almost certainly be facing a longer ban. Derek McInnes’ side still had a chance to claw their way back into the contest and the sending-off all but confirmed Rangers’ win.
Michael Beale will be pleased with large parts of the performance at Rugby Park, particularly in an attacking sense, with Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent both impressing.
However, the Gers fell behind yet again and something does need to change to stop this group of players from starting slowly time and time again. Their powers of recovery are unquestioned, but it does make life far harder than it needs to be for the Gers.
Rangers now face a league and cup double against St Johnstone as Beale looks to continue his impressive start since his return to Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, the club want to sign this South American ace who’s playing in Europe.
