Rangers make no contact with Everton over Tom Davies signing – Daily Record

Rangers have not yet contacted Everton about the possibility of signing midfield player Tom Davies, according to the Daily Record [9 January, 11:08am].

The 24-year-old is out of contract at Goodison Park in the summer and Michael Beale has already admitted to being an admirer of his.

The Light Blues could well look to make a move this January transfer window for Davies as a result of Beale’s verdict on the former England Under-21 international.

But the Daily Record claim that no talks have been held between the two clubs yet but did not rule out the possibility of something materialising in the latter stages of the window.

The Liverpool-born midfielder has made 145 Premier League appearances for the Toffees having come through their academy but Frank Lampard has only used him 10 times in all competitions this season.

Combative

Considering Rangers often dominate matches in the Premiership, with the exception of Old Firm derbies against Celtic, they could do with a creative mastermind in midfield more than a battling workhorse such as Davies.

There is always a chance that he could cost a significant amount for the Bears this month and if he is going to be available for free in six months’ time then why bother spending the cash now?

Beale and Ross Wilson should be looking at a loan move if anything in January as he could well provide the grit required to turn Old Firm derby draws into wins.

There are still two Glasgow grudge matches to come this season and Beale has to remain hopeful of closing the big gap to the Hoops by the end of the campaign.

If Davies can come in and help that cause then he is worth pursuing but there is no need to break the bank to make it happen.

In other Rangers news, the money for a Davies move could be generated by this Ibrox ace who is wanted in the Americas amid his own contract dispute.
