Kris Boyd hits out at Alfredo Morelos ‘impact’ in Rangers win v Dundee United
Kris Boyd doesn’t believe Alfredo Morelos changed the game for Rangers during their 2-0 Scottish Premiership victory over Dundee United.
The Colombian replaced Antonio Colak at halftime after a sluggish first-half performance from Michael Beale’s side.
However, Boyd didn’t think the 26-year-old was the reason the Light Blues sealed victory, despite an improved second-half display.
“I know Antonio Colak didn’t do a lot today and I know Andy Walker thought Alfredo Morelos changed the game but I wasn’t sure,” said the former Rangers striker (Sky Sports commentary, 18:07, 8 January).
“He’s there, he’s going to occupy the centre backs but you would expect him to do that. But I think Sakala and Kent drifting into more central areas changed the game. The goal from Sakala changed the game.
“It looks like Morelos made an impact, but was he involved in any of the goals? The answer is no.”

The second-half performance from Beale’s side was superb and the Rangers boss deserves a lot of credit for turning their poor first-half display around. The likes of Fashion Sakala and Ryan Kent were able to get on the ball more frequently and the home side couldn’t deal with the Gers at times.
The win over Dundee United ensures they keep some sort of pressure on Celtic after the Old Firm Derby draw on 2 January. Failure to beat Liam Fox’s team would’ve been a disaster for the Gers, particularly after their impressive performance against Celtic.
The results have been there for Rangers under Beale, but now the performances are beginning to follow suit. There’s certainly a much better feeling surrounding the club after the departure of Giovanni van Bronckhorst and it’s up to Beale to keep the players firmly focused on the job at hand.
January promises to be an important month for the Gers on and off the field with Beale looking to add to his squad over the course of the month.
